Grounds Management

Though there has been a Grounds Committee in one form or another since Swan Point was first built, the Swan Point Board of Directors created, in the mid nineteen nineties, the current Grounds Committee with responsibility for preservation and enhancement of the grass, trees, shrubs and the earth that supports them on this lovely plot of land jutting out into Lake Elkhorn

The stalwart committee members, most of whom have been here for many years, live in all parts of the community and walk through the property frequently looking for hazards and threats of erosion, plants or trees that need to be replaced, and unsightly spots that can be improved. They propose landscaping projects to the Swan Point Board who allot funds to have the work done. The committee has, over the years, overseeing the building of walkways and stairs, the installation of drainage systems, the construction of retaining walls, the planting of new trees, the maintenance of established plantings and the creation of new ones, and the removal of dangerous or dying trees and bushes. To preserve the natural beauty of the Maryland countryside that surrounds us, the committee has emphasized the cultivation of plants native to our region.

To see the fruits of the Grounds Committee's labors, walk out your front or back door and look beyond your foundation planting. If you spot a set of stairs, a stone walk, a stand of trees, a mulched plot of rhododendrons, azaleas, jonquils, or viburnum, you've probably seen the committee's work.

If you can spare a few hours a month, join the committee.
